Composition (9th–12th)

This high school Composition course is designed to strengthen students' reading, writing, grammar, and communication skills through engaging lessons and interactive activities. Students will develop confidence as writers while learning how to clearly express ideas, analyze literature, think critically, and communicate effectively in both academic and real-world settings.

Course Overview:

  • Writing Skills Development:
    Students explore a variety of writing styles including argumentative, narrative, and informational writing. Instruction focuses on the complete writing process, from brainstorming and thesis development to drafting, revising, and polishing final essays.
  • Grammar and Language Foundations:
    Targeted instruction in sentence structure, punctuation, parts of speech, and effective writing techniques helps students strengthen foundational grammar and language skills.
  • Reading and Literary Analysis:
    Students engage with novels, short stories, informational texts, and class discussions designed to improve reading comprehension, vocabulary development, and analytical thinking.
  • Discussion and Critical Thinking:
    Activities such as Socratic seminars, collaborative discussions, and growth mindset exercises encourage students to become thoughtful readers and confident communicators.
  • Real-World Communication:
    This course prepares students for upper-level high school coursework, college-level writing, and effective communication in everyday life by helping them become stronger readers, writers, and thinkers.
