Baking (5th-8th)

"Baking Basics" is an exciting and educational course for students in grades 5-8, designed to introduce young learners to the art and science of baking. Under the guidance of an experienced baker, students will explore a variety of baking techniques and delve into creating delicious recipes from scratch.

  • Bread Making:
    Learn the basics of bread making, from mixing dough to baking, and understand the science behind yeast and fermentation.
  • Cake Decorating:
    Explore the creative art of cake decorating, using different icings and techniques to create visually stunning cakes.
  • Pastry Creation:
    Dive into the world of pastries, mastering techniques for making flaky crusts and sweet fillings.
  • Safety and Cleanliness:
    Emphasize the importance of kitchen safety and maintaining cleanliness while handling food.

This course is perfect for budding chefs and young learners eager to explore their culinary talents in a fun, engaging environment. Through hands-on activities and supportive instruction, students will not only learn how to bake but also gain an appreciation for the chemistry and creativity involved in making their favorite treats.

Since West Salem has NEVER CHARGED for the use of their facility (i.e. no rent, utilities, water, internet, or paper product fees; ONLY a nominal cleaning fee), there will be no facility or maintenance fees required. In order to respect your time and resources, we plan to offer regular lunches for a small charge with all proceeds going to West Salem Baptist Church as our love offering to them for such a generous gift.
