English Literature (10th-12th)

In this course, we will explore some of the great works of English literature. We’ll read an Old English poem, a Shakespeare play, a Jane Austen novel, and much more. Students will learn how to read deeply, paying attention to form and symbols and how these help us interpret the books we read. They will then write papers demonstrating their ability to deeply read the books on the booklist along with an additional book of their own choosing. Throughout the course, we will seek to foster a love of reading all types of literature. Students should leave this course with the skills to read and discuss any book they pick up. This is an advanced course, as it will require extensive amounts of reading, writing, and discussing. It is best suited for 10th-12th graders.
