This Introduction to Sewing course is designed for students in grades 8–12 who are new to sewing or want to sharpen their foundational skills. The class will cover both hand sewing and machine techniques, providing students with the confidence and knowledge to complete basic projects independently. Whether students bring their own machines or use one provided in the classroom, they'll have the opportunity to learn the essentials of sewing in a supportive, hands-on environment.
Course Overview:
- Hand Sewing Basics:
Learn essential hand sewing techniques such as threading a needle, basic stitches, and sewing buttons.
- Sewing Machine Skills:
Gain experience operating a sewing machine safely and confidently.
- Reading and Using Patterns:
Understand how to read and follow a sewing pattern to complete guided projects.
- Creative Projects:
Students will complete a series of practical sewing projects such as a pillowcase and pajama pants to apply their skills in a creative way.
- Collaborative Learning:
Work together in a workshop-style class environment where students can help and encourage each other as they learn and create.
Students are welcome to bring their own sewing machines if they have one, or they may use classroom machines as available. This class offers a relaxed and supportive setting for developing practical skills and exploring creativity through fabric and thread.
Materials Fee: $20 per student
This fee covers fabric, thread, and additional supplies for student sewing projects.
