Masters in Education - TESOL, Instructional Designer, & Home Educator

It has been my passion to educate since my summer internship in Venezuela in 1999. In 2006, I achieved a Masters in Education in Teaching English to Students of Other Languages.

After spending 8 years teaching Spanish and ESL throughout NC, I started a NC Supplemental Education Services Provider for ESL students. A few years later, I started a 21st Century Community Learning Center after school program serving immigrant and refugee students in East Charlotte. At the height of our program operation, we served approximately 370 students with 35 staff members.

Since the launch of those two programs, I have continued my professional endeavors by creating a world themed summer day camp experience called Charlotte Day Camp, worked with a rural NC school district as the ESL/Migrant Education Program(s) Coordinator, created international curriculum and assessments and directed a post-secondary ESL Program.

Today, I am a full time homeschool mom of 4 kids. My background in education and program management has equipped me to tackle the challenges of day to day homeschool routines, customized instruction and assessment.

Masters in Education Administration

I love God and kids.

I felt called by God when I was 8 years old. I have a bachelor’s degree from James Madison University. I became a teacher of Exceptional Children in 1986. After teaching for six years, I secured a master’s degree in Education Administration from Virginia Tech. I taught for 10 years and became very involved in missions (home and foreign). I pursued missions by attending Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where I completed 46 hours in the Master of Divinity Program. There I met my husband, Vai Leau (Army Chaplain). We have been married and worked together in the ministry for 25 years. I taught an additional 5 years in public schools. We have one daughter, Emily.
