This hands-on course in content management systems (CMS) is designed to guide students in building multiple websites throughout the year using platforms like WordPress. Intended for grades 8–12, this course equips students with real-world skills in site development, layout, and CMS customization—allowing them to leave the course with a portfolio of live website projects and marketable technical experience.
Course Overview:
- Step-by-Step Learning:
Students will begin by duplicating a website provided by the instructor. They'll receive all content—text, images, themes, and page-by-page guidelines—to ensure success in the foundational build. - WordPress Manual Build:
The first project includes developing a comprehensive how-to guide on using WordPress, introducing the core CMS principles and common tools. - Portfolio Development:
Throughout the year, students will design and build 2–4 additional websites. Example projects include a small business website, a church or ministry website, and a personal portfolio site. - Real-World Application:
By the end of the course, students will be equipped to create functional, professional websites using CMS platforms and will have the skills to potentially earn income offering these services.
Note: Students will need access to a laptop for both class and homework assignments.
