ASL 1 (7th-12th)

Want to learn how to sign under water, through windows, or across a room without yelling? Now’s your chance! American Sign Language 1 is a fun and foundational course where students will learn to communicate using one of the most expressive and visual languages in the world.

Course Highlights:

  • Alphabet & Numbers:
Master the ASL fingerspelling alphabet and numbers, which form the foundation for understanding and creating signs.
  • Basic Vocabulary:
Learn everyday signs and phrases related to greetings, family, food, emotions, weather, school, and more.
  • Visual Communication:
Develop the ability to communicate clearly without voice using facial expression, body language, and spatial awareness.
  • Deaf Awareness & Culture:
Explore Deaf culture, etiquette, and the importance of ASL in the lives of the Deaf community.
  • Faith & Mission Focus:
Understand the spiritual importance of ASL—less than 1% of the Deaf know Christ. Students will be encouraged to see this language as a tool for ministry and outreach.

Additional Information

This beginner-level class is perfect for students with no prior ASL experience. Through interactive lessons, games, signing practice, and visual storytelling, students will gain confidence in basic sign language and develop a heart for Deaf culture and ministry.
