Introduction to Robotics (Grades 8–12)

The Robotics class gives students hands-on experience in programming, electronics assembly, and robotics through the construction of an Elegoo Smart Robotic Car V4. During the first semester, students will focus on C++ programming while learning how robotics blends science, engineering, and technology to create autonomous systems that sense their environment, process information, and perform actions. The Arduino board will be the main controller used to operate the car’s functions and bring each project to life.

Course Overview:

  • Robotics Foundations:
    Learn how robotic systems use sensors, motors, code, and electronic components to interact with the world around them.
  • Arduino and C++ Programming:
    Use the Arduino platform and introductory C++ programming to control the robotic car’s movement, sensors, and functions.
  • Hands-On Assembly:
    Build an Elegoo Smart Robotic Car V4 while gaining practical experience with electronics, wiring, motors, and mechanical components.
  • Autonomous Systems:
    Explore how robots sense their environment, process information, and respond through programmed actions.
  • Engineering and Problem Solving:
    Develop confidence through troubleshooting, testing, experimentation, and creative problem-solving.

Materials Fee: TBD

This fee covers the Elegoo Smart Robotic Car V4 kit and other necessary electronic components used in class projects. Fee is based on potential changing cost of car kit / proposed materials

Since West Salem has NEVER CHARGED for the use of their facility (i.e. no rent, utilities, water, internet, or paper product fees; ONLY a nominal cleaning fee), there will be no facility or maintenance fees required. In order to respect your time and resources, we plan to offer regular lunches for a small charge with all proceeds going to West Salem Baptist Church as our love offering to them for such a generous gift.
